Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows represent the total value of cross-border transactions associated with direct investment over the course of a year. These transactions include equity investments, reinvested earnings, and intercompany loans. Inward FDI flows, or FDI inflows, refer to transactions that raise the level of investment foreign investors hold in businesses within the reporting country after subtracting those that reduce such investments.
ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations and is a political and economic union composed of the ten member states Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.Â
In 2024, the manufacturing sector in ASEAN received around **** billion U.S. dollars in foreign direct investment (FDI). This was an increase of approximately ** billion U.S. dollars compared to the manufacturing FDI inflows to the region in 2023.
