What is the Logistics Performance Index? 

The Logistics Performance Index (LPI), developed by the World Bank, assesses a country’s trade and logistics efficiency. It measures six key areas: customs processes, infrastructure, shipment reliability, logistics services, tracking systems, and delivery timeliness. Countries are rated on a * to * scale, with higher scores indicating stronger logistics capabilities. A high LPI score shows efficient trade facilitation, robust transport networks, and advanced infrastructure, driving economic growth. Countries like Germany and Singapore consistently rank among the top performers. 

Asia’s container logistics infrastructure

Asia is home to the world’s largest and busiest container ports, serving as key hubs for global trade. In 2023, eight of the world’s ten largest container ports were located in were in Asia, with Shanghai and Singapore ranking as the top two. Notably, five of these top ten ports were in China, highlighting the country’s dominance in maritime logistics. Additionally, Singapore port's container throughput reached a record high of approximately ** million TEUs in 2024, further solidifying its role as a critical transshipment hub. Its port infrastructure as well as operational efficiency contributed to the swift turnaround for shipping vessels. Asia’s port infrastructure has closely aligned with the region’s trade volume, ensuring efficiency and capacity to support global commerce.
