It is derived from surveys conducted among purchasing leaders/ managers in manufacturing businesses. These leaders/ managers are responsible for acquiring goods and services for production, making their insights crucial for gauging economic conditions. The index is based on key areas of manufacturing activity, such as new orders, production output, employment, supplier delivery times, and inventory levels.
PLI above 50 indicates expansion.
PLI below 50 indicates contraction.
PLI equal to 50 equal to no change in manufacturing activity from the previous month.
