Google’s water withdrawals have increased more than four-fold since 2016, reaching 14.7 billion gallons in 2025. Roughly 90 percent of Google's water withdrawals were for use in its data centers around the world. Water is mainly used for cooling the data centers, and the company's increased water consumption is part of its strategy to reduce energy consumption and emissions, compared to air cooling.
