Miscanthus and Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) are mainly cultivated as bioenergy crops for use in the heat and electricity industries. They provide fuel for power plants, combined heat and power (CHP) units, and heating systems.
In 2023, a total of some 8.8 thousand hectares of agricultural land in England was dedicated for the cultivation of miscanthus. This is an increase when compared to the previous year, wherein around eight thousand hectares of land was used for cultivation of these crops. Â
