'Consumption-based' emissions are calculated by 'production-based' emissions, minus emissions from exports, plus emissions from imports.
When a territory's 'consumption-based' emissions are higher than their 'production-based' emissions, it is considered a net importer of carbon dioxide. If its 'consumption-based' emissions are lower, then it is a net exporter.
This data accounts for carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions derived from fossil fuels and industrial activity, and does not account for emissions based on changes of land use, as well as emissions from international aviation and shipping.
