The non-performing loans (NPL) ratio in Portugal has decreased during the last years. The highest share of NPL among gross loans in the country occurred in the second quarter of 2016, at over 20 percent. From 2017 onwards, the ratio has steadily decreased, arriving at 2.32 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024.
