Between 2014 and 2025, the return on equity (ROE) of the banking industry in Sweden increased overall, despite periodic fluctuations. A notable drop in the ROE occurred in the first quarter of 2020 due to weak economic conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after this sharp decline, ROE stabilized in subsequent quarters and peaked at **** percent in the third quarter of 2023. Since then, ROE dropped to **** percent in the third quarter of 2025.
