A 2023 survey conducted in Indonesia found that about 46 percent of respondents perceived the development costs for Indonesia's new capital city would be better used for more urgent issues in the country. The Indonesian government is currently developing the Capital City of Nusantara (Ibu Kota Nusantara/IKN), which is located in East Kalimantan, to replace Jakarta as its national capital. The development of Nusantara has started in 2022 and is aimed to be fully completed by 2045. The government estimated that Nusantara would be ready to be occupied and inaugurated in 2024.
