Loans to the Asset Purchase Facility (APF) were by far the largest asset type on the balance sheet of the Bank of England in the first quarter of 2024. The APF refers to a program implemented by the Bank of England to buy financial assets, typically government bonds, as a part of its monetary policy. The primary goal of the APF is to influence economic conditions by adjusting the amount of money in circulation and the interest rates in the financial system.
