The Global Slavery Index contains data on modern slavery in 160 countries. The government response index measures the national efforts in 176 countries to end modern slavery, looking at legal, policy, and programmatic dimensions. An index score with a maximum of 100 points (best possible response) is given based on 141 indicators.
*Five further countries had a score of 30.8. These were Cape Verde, Cuba, Mali, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.

North Korea was ranked as the country with the weakest government response to modern slavery, with an index score of minus **** Eritrea and Iran followed behind. Some of the countries on the list, such as North Korea, Eritrea, and Libya, are actively involved in modern slavery through state-imposed forced labor. North Korea was also the country with the highest number of people in modern slavery per 1,000 inhabitants.
