According to the source, the values are based on reports of anti-Semitic incidents by victims or witnesses and other information provided by other organizations. In contrast to the police crime statistics (PKS), non-criminal incidents are also recorded. Anti-Semitic crimes only known to the police were not included. The source points out that only the bright field, i.e. officially known and registered incidents, are shown. It can be assumed that the sum of all cases is higher.
In 2023, total of 4,782 antisemitic incidents were reported to the federal association RIAS e.V. in Germany. Seven of these were cases of extreme violence. These are defined as physical attacks or assaults that could result in death or serious bodily harm. The most common type of incident, on the other hand, was ‘hurtful behavior’ with 4,060 reported cases in 2023. This term covers all anti-Semitic statements made against Jewish or Israeli people or institutions.Â
