Supplementary notes
This question was phrased by the source as follows: "An account can be used to save money, to make or to receive payments, or to receive wages or financial help. Do you, either by yourself or together with someone else, currently have an account at a bank or another type of formal financial institution? Yes or no?"
The source only provided figures for those who answered "yes". The figures shown have been calculated.
Comparisons with 2021 may be affected by survey mode changes. COVID-19 moved many countries from face-to-face to phone surveys in 2021; some reverted in 2024. Phone surveys can under-represent unbanked groups, causing artificial changes in inclusion data. Large reported shifts likely reflect these measurement changes rather than real trends.

Triennial unbanked population share in Canada 2011-2024, by demographic
According to a survey, the share of Canadian respondents without access to a bank account increased notably between 2021 and 2024. The increase seemed especially fueled by the increase of the "unbanked" population - or those who did not have access to the services of a bank or another, similar financial organization - among the richest respondents as well as men. The share of respondents who were classified under the richest **Â percent of the country, for example, grew from *** percent in 2021 to *** percent in 2024. That said, Canada's unbanked population remained relatively small.
