As of July 2020, a few months after the COVID-19 pandemic began, nearly ** percent of women aged 15 and older reported feeling depressed in Spain, an increase compared to **** percent of women who said the same before the pandemic. A larger share of respondents, including both genders, reported trouble sleeping and expressed a lack of interest or joy in doing things compared to before the pandemic. In the case of men who experienced depression during that period in Spain, the share grew from around **** percent before COVID-19 to almost ** percent as of July 2020.
