The figures have been taken from several publications, as (the quality of) data tracking of card payments can vary significantly between countries, and to unify figures across different countries worldwide.

All figures stem from either the��or the��. Both use figures submitted by the country's central bank to either or both sources.

2022 figures and beyond - release date November 2023 and later - made significant strides in reporting quality, sometimes causing significant breaks in methodology in individual countries. ��ƽ�� sometimes still had to calculate figures, however, as card figures were split between non-remote and remote use cases, or credit cards were not always clearly defined.��

Citation formats

Debit card payments in France experienced a significant increase since 2021, over *** billion euros in the last three years. After dropping around * billion euros in 2020, the card spending reached over * billion euros in 2025. This was a sizable increase for the European country after the coronavirus pandemic and its resulting safety measures led to the first decline in debit card spending in years. Before the coronavirus pandemic, a three-year survey from the European Central Bank observed that Germany ranked among the least likely countries in Europe to use cash money.
