The 2022 study was conducted in the 27 EU member states and follows on from earlier editions or the Intellectual Property and Youth Scoreboard, published in 2016 and 2019. The study is based on a survey questionnaire.

Video game piracy among young gamers in the EU 2022
According to a survey of youth behavior online by the EU Intellectual Property Office, just over half of young people surveyed (51 percent) access games online through solely or mainly legal sources. 12 percent of those surveyed access games online through only or mainly illegal sources. In addition, about one fifth (21 percent) of those surveyed stated that they use a mixture of both legal and illegal sources to access games online.
