A December 2021 survey in the United States explored public opinion on whether it was acceptable for a professional athlete to not compete in sporting events due to mental health issues. While ** percent of respondents stated it was reasonable for sportspeople to drop out of events for mental health reasons, percent disagreed and thought it would not be acceptable to do so.
