According to a survey conducted in Canada in 2021, 30 percent of respondents stated that social media had somewhat helped open debate and the exchange of differing viewpoints on issues. However, a similar share of respondents thought that social media had somewhat hurt debate and the exchanging of viewpoints. Furthermore, 22 percent of Canadian residents reported that social media had strongly hurt discussion and sharing of opinions on countywide issues.
