The European Union (EU-27) generated approximately ****million metric tons of municipal waste in 2024, of which ** million metric tons were landfilled. Nevertheless, the amount of municipal waste landfilled in the EU fell by some ** percent since 2000, with its share of generated waste dropping to **Ìý±è±ð°ù³¦±ð²Ô³Ù.Ìý During this same period, the amount of municipal waste recycled in the European Union increased from ** million to ** million metric tons and now accounts for the largest share of waste treatment. When composting is included with recycling, the overall recycling rate of municipal waste in the EU stood at nearly ** percent in 2024.
