The interviewees were asked the following questions:
- Have you used in-person mental health and/or substance use treatment
services over the past year? This could include meeting with a therapist,
counselor, psychiatrist or primary care doctor in-person.
- Have you used telehealth for mental health and/or substance use
treatment services over the past year? This could include meeting with a
therapist, counselor, psychiatrist, or primary care doctor virtually.
The source provides the following information: "the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of adults based on gender, educational attainment, age, race, and region. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points."

A survey conducted in the U.S. about the use of in-person or telehealth services in the treatment of mental health and/or substance use during the past year as of 2021, showed that young adults were more likely to say that they used either in-person or telehealth services. Among the users of telehealth services the group aged 36-44 was the most likely to use the service, with a rate of ** percent. This graph shows the share of respondents who used in-person or telehealth services when treating mental health and/or substance use over the past year in the United States as of 2021, by age group.
