As of July 2022, a majority of men in Sweden supported the Government's decision to apply for a membership in the military alliance NATO. On the contrary, just above half of the women living in Sweden were in favor of NATO-membership. The share of Swedes in favor of a membership increased since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. On May 15, 2022, the Swedish government announced its intention to join NATO.
