In the United States, the most common configuration for combined-cycle natural gas turbines includes two combustion turbines and one steam turbine. Turbine systems of this configuration had a combined capacity of 154 gigawatts in 2020. Combined-cycle natural gas turbine systems include both steam turbines and combustion turbines. In these systems, exhaust heat from one or more combustion turbines is sent to a recovery steam turbine which then generates additional electricity.
