In February 2022, a global survey found that within the last two years, 19 percent of women and 13 percent of men had viewed comments or images online suggesting that men were superior to women. Overall, 19 percent of women who partook in the survey reported they had been sent unrequested comments on their physical appearance. Furthermore, 11 percent of women had been targeted with sexist or misogynistic language. Whilst women were more likely to have received sexist and misogynistic abuse, men were slightly more prone to have experienced online racist abuse and online threats regarding their physical safety.
