In 2018, ** percent of girls at 13 years of age used social media as a means to forget negative emotions, which was an increase of more than ten percent when compared to 11-year-old girls. For the Danish boys, this tendency declined with age. While ** percent of the boys in the youngest age group had this problem, this was the case for ** percent of the boys in the oldest age group. Overall, girls took more refuge in social media when experiencing negative emotions.
