The highest mountain in Iceland is the Hvannadals Peak, stretching meters above sea level. It is a part of the active volcano Öræfajökull, which is located in the southern part of the glacier Vatnajökull, and last erupted in 1727. Bárðarbunga is Iceland's second highest mountain and is also the only other mountain in the country stretching more than meters. The Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland's eighth highest peak, became world famous in 2010 when the volcano erupted and halted a large share of Europe's air traffic.
