East Asia was by far the region that registered the highest production of urea (also known as carbamide) in 20234. In that year, production in the region reached approximately 81 million metric tons. The global production of urea amounted to roughly 201 million metric tons in 2024. Urea has a 46 percent nitrogen content and is frequently used straight as a fertilizer. Urea is also used as input to produce complex NPK fertilizers.
