*The source counts the answers of the survey conducted in December 2024 as figures for fiscal year 2024. The Japanese fiscal year starts on April 1 of the stated year and ends on March 31 of the following year. Figures for years prior to fiscal year 2024 are based on earlier surveys, each with a sample size of 1,500 respondents aged 13 to 69 years old. From fiscal year 2024 onward, the number of respondents increased from 1,500 to 1,800 because of the inclusion of an additional age group (people aged 70 to 79 years old).
Data prior to fiscal year 2024 come from previous reporting.
Respondents were asked how important they regarded the internet as "a means to gain information (source of information)." There were five possible answers: "Very important," "Important to a certain degree," "Neither," "Not really important," "Absolutely not important." The values shown in this statistic represent the combined share of respondents who answered either "Very important" or "Important to a certain degree."
