Between the first quarter of 2020 and the fourth quarter of 2022, equities held the highest value of net assets of open-end funds worldwide. An open-end fund is a diversified portfolio of collective money from investors, which can issue an unlimited amount of shares. At the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, regulated open-end equity funds amounted to a value of almost 26.9 trillion U.S. dollars. This was followed by bonds and money market funds, amounting to a value of approximately 11.5 trillion and 8.8 trillion U.S. dollars, respectively.
