Between the first quarter of 2020 and the second quarter of 2024, equities comprised the largest portion of open-end funds worldwide. An open-end fund is a diversified portfolio of collective money from investors, which can issue an unlimited amount of shares. At the end of the second quarter of 2024, 47,319 regulated open-end funds were equity funds. This was followed by multi-asset funds and bond funds, totaling 35,550 and 24,207 respectively.
