As of March 2021, the majority of investments for LNG terminals in the European Union were made by the public sector. Some 1.2 billion euros in public money was spent for LNG terminal projects, of which 31 million euros were dedicated for proposed LNG terminals. By comparison, there was no private financing for any proposed terminal at that time.
