In the United States and the European Union, it is projected that coal demand will fall an estimated **** percent and *** percent, respectively, in 2021 relative to 2019 levels. In contrast, coal demand in China will increase by more than percent. Oil demand has been the most negatively affected energy source due to the significant restrictions on mobility. Meanwhile, renewable energy demand has experienced growth during the pandemic. In 2020, global primary energy demand fell by **** percent year on year.
