Electricity is the most popular residential heating fuel type in West Virginia. In 2022, some 46.3 percent of occupied housing units in the state relied on electricity for heating. Utility gas was the second most used house heating fuel type. Both fuels combined accounted for more than 86 percent of West Virginia's residential heating.
