Fuel oil, kerosene and other oil-based fuels are the most popular residential heating fuel type in Maine. In 2022, over 56 percent of occupied housing units in the state relied on oil for heating. Bottled, tank or LP gas was the second most used house heating fuel, at 13.9 percent.
