*The source counts the answers of the survey conducted in December 2024 as figures for fiscal year 2024. The Japanese fiscal year starts on April 1 of the stated year and ends on March 31 of the following year. Figures for previous years are based on earlier surveys. **Figures are based on diary entries of 1,800 respondents. Answers represent the average usage time of two weekdays, which is why the sample size is indicated as 3,600 respondents. Figures for years prior to fiscal year 2024 are based on diary entries of 1,500 respondents, which were then indicated as 3,000 respondents. From fiscal year 2024 onward, the number of respondents increased from 1,500 to 1,800 because of the inclusion of an additional age group (people aged 70 to 79 years old).
Data prior to fiscal year 2024 come from previous reporting.

People in Japan on average spent minutes per weekday using the internet in fiscal year 2024. The internet usage time decreased considerably compared to the previous year because of the inclusion of an additional age group in the survey. As a breakdown by age group shows, the internet usage time was lower among older age cohorts.
