As of the second quarter of 2020, the share of services in Tanzania's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was projected at nearly 38 percent. Trade and repair was the main activity in the sector, adding approximately nine percent to the GDP. Transport and storage followed with a share of some 7.6 percent. Accommodation and restaurants, a sector that traditionally has strong participation in Tanzania's economy, registered a share of only 1.1 percent, reflecting the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, services accounted for a higher share of the GDP than agricultural activities, and the industry and construction sector.
