The survey sample was selected by region, age and gender using data from the Japanese national census.
In a survey conducted in 2019, 81.4 percent of respondents in Japan aged 70 or older stated that they were interested in politics. Younger age groups were less interested in politics. The overall share of respondents interested in politics in 2019 was 59.8 percent.
