Traditional cigarettes were the most commonly consumed products among smokers in Japan, as revealed in a survey conducted in November 2019. Around ** percent of smokers stated that they consumed paper-wrapped cigarettes only, while *** percent smoked cigarettes and heated tobacco products.
According to Japanese law, e-cigarettes containing nicotine can not be purchased legally in the country apart for medical purposes. Instead, heated tobaccos, also known as tobacco vapor products, is considered a legal alternative to cigarettes.
