Results from a survey on attitudes to content availability on streaming services in the United States in June 2020 revealed that 60 percent of Americans believe that there is an obligation to keep classic movies that are considered racist due to the historical context. TV shows and films that have controversial racial depictions are still considered important to keep by the majority of those surveyed, although a breakdown by ethnicity found that only 36 percent of African American respondents agreed that streaming services should keep such movies online based on historical context, compared to 65 percent of White adults who said the same.
