In a survey conducted in December 2019, a half of Japanese respondents agreed that Tokyo Prefecture hosting the 2020 Olympics would help developing the city easily accessible with more universal design facilities. With another approximately ** percent somewhat agreeing to the statement, an overall majority of around ** percent foresaw this development due to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Summer Olympics were scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital.
