In May 2020, 44 percent of Russians stated that they would vote in favor of the Constitutional amendments that their president Vladimir Putin suggested at the beginning of January of that year. At the same time, nearly one third expressed opposition to the legislative changes. In December 2019, 17 percent of the Russian population were of the opinion that the Constitution of 1993 should not be changed.
