There are many myths and preconceptions surrounding the issues of rape and sexual assault. In the media and popular culture, much more focus is given to acts committed by unknown perpetrators, however, statistics show that, in France in 2022, around ***percent of sexual attacks were of this nature, and ***percent of the attackers were known by the victim. Approximately ***percent of rapes or attempted rapes were committed by the victim’s spouse or ex-spouse, while a similar share were committed by another person known to the victim.
