In 2023, among professional nurses, midwives and nursing associates eligible to practice in the UK, 61 percent of respondents left the register in 2023 because they were retiring. During that year, roughly 31 percent cited physical and mental health as one of the main reasons for leaving. This statistic displays the share of main reasons for nurses and midwifes to leave the Nursing and Midwifery Council register in the UK in 2023.
