Decentralized finance or DeFi became popular in 2021 and 2022 but has strong ties to other digital trends. DeFi refers to traditional financial services and products built on and replicated by an unregulated or decentralized blockchain infrastructure. A digital copy of an art piece on the blockchain is not DeFi but a non-fungible token (NFT). Instead, DeFi concerns the service that allows this token to be traded and paid for on the blockchain. Naturally, DeFi is tied to real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Does this mean DeFi is popular in 2025?
