The amount of money staked in decentralized crypto lending platform Aave peaked in September 2025, at billion U.S. dollars. Since then, the total value locked in Aave has decreased by about half as of March 12, 2026. Even so, the TVL in 2026 were still higher than before June 2025.
Aave is one of the more well-known lenders in Decentralized Finance or DeFi. Originally founded in 2017, Aave ranks among the DeFi services with the highest market cap worldwide in 2022. Some observe, though, such figures for crypto lenders were lower than they were in 2020 or early 2021. One reason could include the growing hype of NFTs - and them reaching the news more often than DeFi did in 2021. Regulatory actions taken in late 2021 in Texas and New Jersey against DeFi market places Celcius and BlockFi also might not have helped the public perception of Decentralized Finance.
