Video-on-demand in Russia - statistics & facts
The Russian video-on-demand (VOD) market has been developing steadily since the 2010s. The number of VOD users in Russia was estimated at 87.5 million in 2024, up six percent from the previous year. Of them, 44.5 million were subscription-VOD (SVOD) customers. Increasing sales of smart TV devices and the emergence of domestic platforms, often called online cinemas in the country, accelerated the popularity of VOD. Furthermore, subscriptions increased in the spring of 2020, when cinemas were closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and consumers spent more time at home.
