Mobile communications in Germany - statistics & facts
The number of mobile connections in Germany has grown explosively since the 1990s. 950,000 were counted in the country in 1992, then 59.13 million 10 years later, and in 2023, 185 million mobile connections were registered. The figures are based on the number of SIM cards being used, with mobile phone subscription contracts included, prepaid connections and SIM cards for M2M communication (between machines). The leading telecommunications providers in Germany are Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone Germany and Telefonica Germany, though they are by no means the only ones used by consumers. Of these three providers, Deutsche Telekom recorded the highest revenue in 2023, at 25.76 billion euros.
