The United States has long stood apart from peer nations in the scale of its health care spending. In 2025, health expenditure was estimated to account for 17.4 percent of GDP, with per capita costs reaching approximately 15,183 U.S. dollars, far exceeding comparable high-income countries. This can be in part attributed to higher prices, administrative complexity, and greater use of specialized care.
