U.S. private health insurance - statistics & facts
Health insurance is a tumultuous topic in the United States, as many individuals struggle to afford basic medical expenses. What is considered by many as an essential human requirement is unfortunately unreachable for many Americans. While there have been a number of public and private forms of health insurance available in the United States, many Americans have faced an ongoing struggle between meeting minimum required thresholds for federal assistance and having financial means for private access through many of the leading health insurance companies dominating the U.S. market, leaving many uninsured. While the number of uninsured people in the U.S. has fallen significantly since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed in 2010, a substantial portion of the population has remained unaccounted for. Meanwhile, Hispanic and Black Americans remain the most uninsured ethnicities in the U.S..Uninsured rates also tend to be higher in groups with low-income jobs, which pay too much to qualify for public insurance and too little to afford private insurance. Language barriers and immigration rules also affect these groups more than other ethnic groups.
