Media usage among seniors in Germany is not just about watching television at home. While longer TV viewing time does still occur among people aged 60 years and older, senior age groups are not averse to newer ways of consuming media content of various types, e.g., via streaming on smart TVs or reading on tablets. Devices do play a key role in how senior consumers adapt their behavior, with companies tweaking manufacturing to make products more user-friendly for someone branching out from print media or cable TV. Senior age groups build a viable market for media consumption and could continue to be a target audience for traditional types of media, print in particular, at least for a few more decades. In German households, the leading types of devices available for media consumption are TVs, radio and smartphones. 81 percent of households also had a PC or laptop.
