Climate change and mental health - Statistics and facts
The implications of climate change on mental health are becoming more generally acknowledged. Exposure to natural hazards, both direct and indirect, can have an influence on mental health, as can an overall awareness of climate change and the resulting environmental decline—the latter is also known as eco-anxiety. Exposure to natural risks raises eco-anxiety, exacerbating the mental health consequences. Young people are particularly exposed to the mental health consequences of climate change, with higher rates of eco-anxiety than other age groups. In 2023, some 33 percent of Gen Zs and 38 percent of Millennials worldwide were alarmed about the consequences of climate change.
